Browns pick offensive assistant McDonald to be receivers coach

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns promoted George McDonald to wide receivers coach Wednesday.

McDonald joined first-year coach Eric Mangini's staff on Feb. 11 as offensive quality-control coach. McDonald spent the two previous seasons as receivers coach at the University of Minnesota, and he also has worked at Western Michigan, Stanford, Northern Illinois and Ball State.

A four-year letterwinner at Illinois from 1995 to 1998, McDonald finished his college career with 59 receptions for 589 yards.
