Brett Favre to delay return to Lambeau Field

Brett Favre's Lambeau Field return plans are back in a holding pattern.

Favre told ESPN's Ed Werder that the plan to take part in pregame festivities in Green Bay next month has been postponed because of recent health problems for Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr.

Favre came to the Packers with the plan to have Starr join him on the field prior to a Sunday Night Football matchup between the Bears and Packers on Nov. 9. Starr suffered two strokes and a heart attack in early September.

Favre is not comfortable with proceeding without Starr.

"I'm sure they could, but it was my idea to do it, and now that Bart can't, I just don't think I will," Favre told Werder.

The Packersannounced in August that the team planned to induct Favre into the team's Hall of Fame next summer, with an official number retirement ceremony to take place at some point during the 2015 regular season. Favre told SiriusXM NFL Radio those plans remain in place.

Favre won a Super Bowl and set nearly every relevant Packers passing record during his storied 16-season run in Green Bay. His time with the Packers ended in acrimony, however, and he was traded to the New York Jets in 2008 before ending his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Favre has improved his relationship with Aaron Rodgers and the Packersin recent years, paving the way for the long-awaited reunion.
