Bills sign kicker Coutu, place Rayner on injured reserve

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills are on their third kicker this season after signing Brandon Coutu and placing Dave Rayner on season-ending injured reserve.

The moves were made Wednesday as the Bills (6-9) prepare to close their season Sunday at New England (12-3).

The Bills didn't disclose the nature of Rayner's injury, though he has been bothered by a sore pelvis. He missed two of six field-goal attempts during a 40-14 win over the Denver Broncos last weekend.

Rayner signed with Buffalo in early November after Rian Lindell broke a bone in his right shoulder.

Coutu joins the Bills two weeks after being released from the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad. He has yet to play in an NFL game after being selected in the seventh round by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2008 draft.
