Bears' Martz says run-heavy offense suits QB Hanie's skill set

Caleb Hanie will make the first start of his NFL career Sunday when the Jay Cutler-less Bears take on the Oakland Raiders, but just because there's been a change at quarterback doesn't necessarily mean Chicago will run a drastically different offense.

Sure, offensive coordinator Mike Martz doesn't expect Hanie to morph into Kurt Warner circa 1999, but he does believe the Bears' run-heavy attack suits Hanie's skill set.

"The things we've been doing kind of fit him," Martz told the Chicago Tribune this week.

Martz added: "The things we were doing in St. Louis — get it out quick, things happen so quick — we'd never ask him to do that kind of stuff."

Hanie is the Bears' starting quarterback until Cutler recovers from surgery on a broken right thumb sustained last week against the San Diego Chargers. Cutler underwent surgery Wednesday, and the Bears remain hopeful he will return to the field before the end of the season.

Hanie replaced an injured Cutler during the 2010 NFC Championship Game, completing 13 of 20 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions against the Green Bay Packers.
