Phair replaces Eric Washington, who took a similar position on Ron Rivera's staff with the Carolina Panthers. Phair spent the past six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, the last three on the coaching staff after working for them as an area scout.

Phair was a defensive assistant last season after serving as assistant defensive line coach (2009) and assistant linebacker coach (2008).

Phair also spent three seasons in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' college scouting department and has coached at Arizona State and Tiffin University.
