The St. Louis Rams could be without injured running back Steven Jackson for next Monday night's game against the New York Giants, but quarterback Sam Bradford is expected to play despite a bruised index finger.
Spagnuolo characterized Jackson as week to week and probably out for the Giants game.
The coach was pleased Jackson didn't attempt to play through his injury during Sunday's 31-13 season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Jackson ran for a 47-yard touchdown on the Rams' first play and carried one more time for 9 yards before leaving with a strained right quadriceps.
"Steven knows his body. He tried to go back in," Spagnuolo said. "But I also credit him for being smart with it. Obviously for protecting himself, but you don't want to hurt your football team."
Those weren't the only injuries the Rams suffered Sunday. Cornerback Ron Bartell has a fractured neck and could be out for the season, and wide receiver Danny Amendola dislocated his left elbow.
Amendola's status remains up in the air, with Spagnuolo waiting to hear further word on the receiver's condition.
"I'm going to wait for the MRI. We'll just see where we're at," Spagnuolo said. "I'm going to say (he's out) this week, and go from there. Especially a guy like Danny Amendola, he's one tough sucker."
Cornerback Brandon Fletcher is day to day with a sprained toe, and offensive tackle Jason Smith has a sprained left ankle, making it what Spagnuolo said was the worst injury report in his three seasons in St. Louis.
