Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware to start camp on NFI list

The Denver Broncos will keep two veterans on the sidelines to start training camp.

Aqib Talib said last week he felt "great" and planned to be ready for camp. Alas, the Broncos will keep the corner off the field at least for the start of workouts.

NFL Media's James Palmer reported Wednesday that Talib will start camp on the NFL non-football injury list, per sources informed of his progress.

John Elway later confirmed the news. Elway added that DeMarcus Ware was also placed on the NFI list. Ware battled back issues last season and through the offseason.

Talib was shot in the leg on June 5, by what police called an "unknown suspect," according to the Dallas Police Department. The DPD also noted that one gram of marijuana was found by police, but no one was charged.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport previously reported that the NFL planned to investigate the shooting and Talib faces the possibility of league discipline.

Talib told the Denver Post last week he was already back running.

With veterans like Talib and Ware, there is no need for the Super Bowl champs to rush them back early in training camp. Week 1 versus the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 8 is the key date in defending their title.
