The first championship helped end one era and kick off another. After experiencing a long, embarrassing history of futility with just six winning seasons and no championship game appearances in the 34 seasons before Chuck Noll arrived as coach, the Steelers' Super Bowl IX win kicked off a run of four Super Bowl triumphs in six seasons for the Steelers.
