Agent for Bucs QB Freeman says he'll wait to re-visit deal

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman won't be seeking to re-visit his current contract before next year, the Tampa Bay Times reported Saturday.

"We (and the Buccaneers) haven't had any discussions about it," Ron Freeman, Freeman's father and agent, told the newspaper. "I think there's no rush. Obviously, we want to have something done by 2013. It's really kind of wait and see. I don't think either side feels like there's any reason to do something before then."

Freeman, who was taken with the 17th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, is still under contract for two more years. He threw 25 touchdown passes and just six interceptions in 2010, when the Buccaneers finished 10-6. But Freeman regressed last season, when he was picked off 22 times en route to a 4-12 team record.

Freeman will hope to improve on his performance before going to the negotiating table. The Bucs have a new head coach in Greg Schiano and spent more than $140 million on a free-agency spending spree this offseason, bringing in receiver Vincent Jackson, guard Carl Nicks and cornerback Eric Wright.

Freeman told Sirius XM radio, via the Tampa Bay Times, that adding offensive weapons Jackson and Nicks made him "feel like it was Christmas, like you just got some new toys and you couldn't wait to go out and play with them."

According to the newspaper, Freeman is set to earn $8.58 million in 2012 and $10.45 million in 2013.

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, who was also drafted in 2009, recently was given a three-year, $40.5 million extension.
