Returning August 2021
NFL Preseason exhibition games have been played since the dawn of the NFL. Starting in 1978, the NFL ushered in the game schedule that we have today, consisting of 16 regular season games and 4 preseason games. The NFL Preseason schedule kicks off every year with Hall of Fame weekend and concludes one week before the start of the regular season.
Every year, the NFL Preseason has major implications on how each of the 32 NFL teams approach the regular season. Injuries, trades and moving depth charts, not only give fans a solid initial impression of the clubs and players, but also allow coaches and front offices the opportunity to evaluate on-the-bubble players and make those tough decisions on who to cut from the 53-man roster. Hard Knocks, produced by NFL Films and HBO, is the all-access pass to a featured NFL team, where fans get a first-hand look at this process and all its dramas. This year, Hard Knocks will move to a two-team edition, covering the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers over the course of five weeks. Hard Knocks 2020 will debut August 11, for a unique, two-team, five-episode season.
Live preseason games on NFL Network are subject to blackouts in the local markets of the participating teams. All NFL Network programming can be streamed live through the NFL and NFL Network apps on smartphones, tablets, PCs and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Xbox One and more). Access is available for NFL Network and NFL RedZone subscribers of participating TV providers.
