NFL announces free concert prior to Sept. 10 Kickoff game

The National Football League announced Tuesday event information for "NFL Opening Kickoff 2009 Presented by EA Sports" Thursday, September 10.

Tim McGraw and The Black Eyed Peas will perform with activities beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET "NFL Opening Kickoff 2009 Presented by EA Sports," the NFL's eighth annual football and music festival. Harry Connick Jr. will sing the national anthem from Heinz Field to conclude the event. The event will be televised live, from 8-8:30 p.m. ET on NBC and NFL Network, leading up to the season opener between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans at Heinz Field at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The NFL released the following information to help make the event enjoyable, accessible, and safe:

ACCEPTED ITEMS

To ensure public safety and security, all backpacks, packages and persons will be subject to inspection.

The public is encouraged to plan ahead and to allow adequate time to pass through security checkpoints before activities begin.

Tents of any kind
No barbecue grills of any kind

Service animals only
Blankets of any kind
Food of any kind
Beverages of any kind

SECURITY CHECKPOINTS

Security checkpoints and entry points for the public will be established at the corner of Commonweatlh Place and Liberty Ave.

ENTRY TIME

Point State Park will be closed to all pedestrians Sept. 10 from Noon - 4:00 p.m. Attendees may begin entering the checkpoints at 4:00 p.m. The Ft. Duquesne Bridge CANNOT be used as an entrance into the park by the general public on Thursday, September 10.

No Parking Zone

Commonwealth Place from Ft. Duquesne Blvd. to Ft. Pitt Blvd. will be a no parking zone (on both sides of the street) through Friday, September 11.

Road Closures Downtown Stanwix Street (Ft. Duquesne Blvd to Liberty Ave) due to construction.
Penn Ave (Stanwix St. to 6th St) due to construction.
Commonwealth Place (Ft. Duquesne Blvd to Liberty Ave) from 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 10 until 12:00 midnight on Friday, September 11.

Fan Parking Downtown

Go to www.DowntownPittsburgh.com/parking for all fan parking needs.

Fans Parking at Heinz Field prior to the Game and looking to attend the Kickoff Concert can cross at the 6th Street Bridge for access to Point State Park.

Media Parking Downtown Go to www.DowntownPittsburgh.com/parking for all your local event parking needs.

Can cross at the Ft. Duquesne Bridge for access to Point State Park. Please pick up your NFL concert media credential prior to parking at Heinz Field. You will need your NFL concert media credential to cross the Bridge and enter the concert.
