The Johnson Family's Mission 31 Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2017 by David and his wife, Meghan. The mission of The Johson Family's Mission 31 Foundation is to provide opportunities, support, and resources to seriously ill children and their families with daily support and life-changing experiences. The Johnson family established their foundation around the purpose of assisting seriously ill children and their families who are forced to spend extended periods of time in the hospital. There is a specific need for this type of assistance in the city given that the Phoenix Metro Area is home to 56 hospitals. Sick children from all over the country come to Phoenix for medical assistance, so the Foundation's outreach is of high importance to the area. The Foundation has unveiled four David's Lockers to-date and David was awarded the NFLPA's Week 13 Community MVP in 2017 for his Foundation's work in the community during the NFL season.

David has always taken a specific interest in his off-the-field endeavors, especially his Foundation's activities since it launched last year. At each event, David mingles with guests to thank them for their support and to generate new support. At each program, David interacts with all of the beneficiaries, especially the children, acting as a role model and providing constant encouragement. He promotes the Foundation's mission through social media and traditional media and serves as the Foundation's top personal contributor. Lastly, it is David's personal philanthropic vision that drives the Foundation's mission. Serving as the Foundation's president, David devotes time working with the executive board to establish the Foundation's ultimate direction.
