Hey, I'm Cristian Saban Carretero! I am from La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz, Spain. I am 38 years old, an IT professional, as well as a dad of two children, 3 and 5 years old respectively, and finally, I am happily married with my lady.
My passion for the Chicago Bears goes back more than 10 years, when I randomly decided to search "Best NFL plays of all time" on the internet, and on that brilliant day, a play of Walter Payton passing a TD to Willie Gault against the Saints came up. Additionally, the video also showed the play where Walter Payton jumped over the Packers defense. I was so excited that I immediately looked more into this #34. Coincidentally, he played for a team in the city of Chicago (I grew up watching Michael Jordan) and noticed that the team's logo was a "C", like the first letter of my name. From that day on, the Bears are part of my life, and practically, my day to day.
I've been able to go to the Watch Parties that the franchise has organized in Spain, from the first one in 2022 in Barcelona, to the 2023 one in Madrid. I was also able to go all the way to London to be able to watch the Bears play in 2024. I might have over 8000 kilometers in trips, but that's nothing compared to the joy and satisfaction of getting together with my Bears friends and family.
The Bears have made me happy directly and indirectly since they chose Spain as one of their international markets. Here in Spain, and specially in Andalucía, we have a saying that family is first, through good and bad, and that's what I've done. I did not care if we were not winning games, I was going to bed at times that other people were starting to wake up for work just so I could watch the games from the moment they started to the moment that clock hit 0:00 in the last quarter.
When I say that the Bears have made me happy indirectly is because of a very important reason in my life. In 2020, I became a father for the first time. My one wish in life was to be a father, and I was finally able to accomplish this dream with the woman I love. Life had one more challenge for us, however. In 2021, my little one suffered a severe medical emergency that left us in the hospital 12 days and 11 nights. One of those nights, I received a message via social media from another Bears fan, without being aware of what I was going through, asking if I was interested in starting a podcast around the Chicago Bears. I answered saying that, if my son survived this situation, I would be more than willing to start this project. Like my wife says, our child is protected by God, and he was able to pull through and survive. Shortly after this, I kept my promise and began the project for our podcast named "La Osera" (The Bear Den). Thanks to this project, we have been able to work side to side with the Bears, and they have treated us like we were direct family of the organization. That night, in that hospital room, my passion for the Bears and the wonderful message of a fellow fan on social media, brought new life in me to continue fighting for my son with incredible amounts of energy. Reckon the Bears have had an impact in my life?
Now the franchise has provided me with the privilege and the honor of being the first-ever Spanish fan to be recognized as an International Fan of the Year – by the Bears or by any other NFL franchise. I am so happy and proud of this moment, that I can already imagine telling my grandkids about this experience.
I don't ever want to wake up from this dream – it's the same reason why I have the Bears tattooed on my skin.
I promise that, as long as I live, I will make that, at least in Spain, the world will now that the Chicago Bears have been, are and will continue to be the best NFL franchise in the entire world.

¡Hola, soy Cristian Saban Carretero! Soy de La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz, España, tengo 38 años y soy informático de profesión. Soy papá de 2 pequeños de 3 y 5 años y estoy casado felizmente con mi mujer.
Mi pasión por los Chicago Bears se remonta hace ya más de 10 años, cuando un día aburrido en casa busqué en internet "las mejores jugadas de la historia de la NFL" y en aquel bendito video, apareció la jugada de Walter Payton pasando para TD a Willie Gault ante los Saints y después, otra jugada saltando por encima de la defensa de Packers. No me pude contener y busqué información de ese número 34. Casualidades de la vida, jugaba en un equipo de la ciudad de Chicago (yo crecí viendo a Michael Jordan) y que su logo era la letra C, como la primera letra de mi nombre. Desde ese día, los Bears forman parte de mi vida y prácticamente de mi día a día.
He podido ir a las Watch Party que la franquicia ha organizado en España, desde la primera en 2022 en Barcelona, hasta la de 2023 en Madrid, e incluso he podido ir hasta Londres para poder verlos jugar en 2024. Puede que lleve a mis espaldas más de 8000 kilómetros en viajes, pocos son comparados con la emoción y satisfacción de reunirme con amigos y familia Bears.
Los Bears me han hecho feliz directa e indirectamente desde que eligieron España como mercado internacional. Aquí en España y sobre todo en Andalucía, decimos que la familia es lo primero, en las buenas y en las malas, y así lo he hecho. Me daba igual que perdiéramos, yo me iba a dormir cuando la gente prácticamente se levantaban a trabajar con tal de acompañar al equipo desde casa hasta que el reloj marcara el 00:00 del último cuarto de cada partido.
Cuando digo que los Bears me hicieron feliz indirectamente es por una razón muy importante en mi vida. En 2020 fui papá por primera vez, mi deseo en la vida era ser padre y por fin lo logre con la mujer que quiero, pero la vida tenía guardado para mí una piedra más en el camino. Mi pequeño sufrió de una emergencia médica en el 2021, la cual nos mantuvo en el hospital 12 días y 11 noches. Una de esas noches alguien me contacta por redes sociales, sin saber mi situación, para proponerme formar parte de un podcast sobre los Chicago Bears. Contesté que, si mi hijo sobrevivía, estaría encantado. Como dice mi mujer, a mi pequeño Dios lo protegía, y así fue, mi hijo sobrevivió y comencé a formar parte de ese podcast maravilloso que tenemos llamado "La Osera". Gracias a eso, los Bears nos han tratado como si fuésemos familia directa de la franquicia. Esa noche, en aquel hospital, mi pasión por los Bears y ese maravilloso mensaje por redes sociales de otro fan de los Bears, hicieron que mis pilas se recargaran para seguir luchando junto a mi pequeño con más energía que nunca. Imaginad si los Bears tienen huella en mi vida.
Ahora la franquicia me da el privilegio y el honor de ser el 1er español en ser Fan internacional del año, el orgullo que siento es tal que ya me imagino cuando sea abuelo, contándole a mis nietos que fui el primer español en ser fan internacional del año por los Chicago Bears y de cualquier franquicia de la NFL.
No quiero despertar de este sueño nunca, y por ello llevo en mi piel tatuado a los Bears.
Os prometo que hasta que la vida me deje, en España, todo el mundo sabrá que los Chicago Bears han sido, son y serán la mejor franquicia de football americano que existe en el mundo.
