Linebacker Joey Porter of the Miami Dolphins is the GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Week for games played on Sept. 21-22.
Porter was selected from among five finalists by voters on NFL.com/gmc. The other finalists were defensive end John Abraham of the Atlanta Falcons, defensive end Juqua Parker of the Philadelphia Eagles, linebacker D.J. Williams of the Denver Broncos and cornerback Antoine Winfield of the Minnesota Vikings.
After the regular season, five players will be nominated for GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/gmc throughout the month of January.
Abraham finished with three tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in the
Falcons' 38-14 victory over the
Kansas City Chiefs. He now has six sacks on the season.
Parker had 2½ sacks, five tackles, a forced fumble, a pass batted down and four quarterback hits in the
Eagles' 15-6 win over the
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Porter recorded three sacks, a forced fumble, and six tackles (three for a loss) in the
Dolphins' 38-13 win over the
New England Patriots.
Williams made one of his 16 tackles on a third-and-1 with 2:19 left, and on the next play New Orleans missed a 43-yard field goal attempt, sealing Denver's 34-32 win.
In one play, Winfield notched a sack, forced a fumble, recovered the ball and ran it back 19 yards for a touchdown that tied the game in Minnesota's 20-10 win over the
Carolina Panthers.
