Who will start at left tackle? The Steelers have cleaned house, dumping their two starting tackles last year, Max Starks and Flozell Adams. They paid Willie Colon to re-sign and they got Jonathan Scott back for depth. Doug LeGursky did a solid job filling in last year for injured Maurkice Pouncey and it will be interesting to see who plays left tackle and if the group can do a better job of protecting Ben Roethlisberger, who has been sacked 82 times in his last 27 regular-season games.
Who wins second cornerback spot?Ike Taylor has been re-signed and he is smart enough to know his best chance for success is under the leadership of Dick LeBeau. Who starts at the other corner spot will be settled in camp. Right now Bryant McFaddan holds down the spot but teams threw at him more than 115 times last year and there were at least 75 balls caught in his area. Keep an eye on third-round pick Curtis Brown and 2009 third-round pick Keenan Lewis as they are part of a group pushing to start in 2011.
Is Hood ready to start? The Steelers always do a great job of training their young players, and when they put them on the field they are ready to contribute. Defensive end Ziggy Hood is a prime example of that, and this camp should be a good indicator of how ready he is to get in the starting lineup. The same might be said for rookie first-round pick Cameron Heyward. It will be very interesting to see what the 2011 plan is for both young players.
