Houston Texans Team History

Established in 1999 as Houston’s second NFL franchise (after the Oilers moved and became the Titans), the Houston Texans did not participate in their first official NFL season until 2002. In their first home opener, the Texans beat the Dallas Cowboys 19-10, becoming the first NFL expansion team to win their opening game since the Vikings beat the Bears in 1961.

The Texans secured their first big win as the AFC South champions in 2011 and clinched their first berth into the playoffs. They have since secured the title five more times, in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019.

The Houston Texans’ name and logo was unveiled before thousands of fans in September 2000. According to the late Texans owner Bob McNair, the name and logo of the Houston Texans was chosen to “embody the pride, strength, independence and achievement that make the people of Houston and our area special." McNair received approval to use the Texans name from Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt as the Texans name had been previously used by the Dallas Texans, the precursor to today’s Chiefs.

    Need more bathrooms

by KGB on 1/17/24NRG Stadium - Houston

Long lines more men’s bathrooms. They should add porta-potties outside on the ramps when they know there is a sellout. Otherwise great fun!

    Great game

by Jason on 1/16/24NRG Stadium - Houston

The Texans playoff game was an incredible game. It was well worth the money to go. The food and drink costs are pretty high but overall the atmosphere was amazing and had a great time.

    Great experience, fans were great.

by Patrick on 1/16/24NRG Stadium - Houston

Every thing and almost everyone was great. The fans for both teams were awesome. Great atmosphere. The only issue I had personally was the usher at the top of my section was kinds rude as I was leaving and instead of saying thank you for coming to the game like I have become accustomed to at road parks from the employees. She was like goodbye in a rude and rubbing in the beating the team I root for just took. Not what I expected from an employee to say the least. I know they are fans of the team too, but as an employee of the team be professional. Everyone was on Christmas Eve when I went down for the game. Kind of expected the same when they won too.
