Pro career: Rex Ryan was named the head coach of the New York Jets on Jan. 19, 2009.


Before joining the Jets, Ryan spent 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, including 2008 as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator. During Ryan’s tenure, the Ravens defense never ranked lower than sixth in the NFL.


Ryan earned 2006 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year honors from Pro Football Weekly and the Pro Football Writers Association.


From 1994 to 1995, he was an assistant under his father, Buddy Ryan, with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals ranked in the NFL's top five in every major defensive statistical category, including third in overall defense.


Personal: Attended Stevenson (Prairie View, IL) HS. His twin brother is Rob Ryan.
