Tony Sparano became the eighth head coach in the Dolpin's history on Jan. 16, 2008.


He had spent the previous five seasons (2003-07) on the staff of the Dallas Cowboys' offensive line, during which time the team made three playoff appearances. He tutored the Cowboys' offensive line the last three years while also holding the title of assistant head coach the past two seasons.


He coached the team's tight ends his first two seasons in Dallas.


Prior to joining the Cowboys, Sparano had NFL stops in Cleveland (1999-2000), Washington (2001) and Jacksonville (2002).


Background: Sparano was a four-year letterman as a center at the University of New Haven, where he earned his degree in criminal law. He began his coaching career at his alma mater in 1984 before moving on to Boston University as offensive coordinator in 1989. He returned to New Haven as the school's head coach in 1994, and manned that spot for the next five years.


Personal: Born October 7, 1961 in West Haven, Conn. He and his wife, Jeanette, have two sons, Tony and Andrew, and one daughter Ryan Leigh.
