Pro Career: Named Lions' 24th head coach Jan. 19, 2006. Marinelli joined the Lions after spending 10 seasons with Tampa Bay (1996-2005) as defensive line coach and holding the additional duties of assistant head coach for the last four seasons.

In Marinelli's 10-year tenure, the Buccaneers recorded 416 sacks, with 328.5 coming courtesy of his defensive line. The 328.5 sacks registered by Marinelli's line ranked first in the NFL among all defensive lines during that span.

Additionally, the Buccaneers' defensive front four garnered top 5 rankings in sacks during six of the 10 seasons under Marinelli. Among individual leaders, a Tampa Bay defensive lineman ranked in the league's top 15 in sacks on eight occasions and in the top 10 six times. The defensive line also played a major role in setting an NFL record for consecutive games with a sack (69) from 1999-2003.

Background: Marinelli's college playing career was split due to a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. In 1968, he played offensive and defensive tackle at Utah. After his service in the military, he attended California Lutheran from 1970-72, earning NAIA All-America honors as an offensive tackle his senior season. He began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, Rosemead (San Gabriel Valley, Calif.) from 1973-75. Collegiately, Marinelli coached defensive line at Utah State (1976), California (1983-91), Arizona State (1992-94), and Southern California (1995).

Personal: Born July 13, 1949, in Rosemead, Calif., He and his wife, Barbara, have two daughters, Chris and Gina. Chris is married to Joe Barry, linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Marinelli also has two granddaughters and two grandsons.
