Pro Career: Todd Bowles became the 18th head coach in New York Jets history on Jan. 14, 2015.

Prior to joining the Jets, Bowles served as defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons (2013-14). He was the Philadelphia Eagles' secondary coach in 2012, and became the team's interim defensive coordinator on Oct. 16, 2012 after the dismissal of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. Under Bowles, the Eagles finished the season ninth in pass defense and 23rd in rushing defense.

Bowles worked as an assistant coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2008 through 2011, serving as a secondary coach and assistant head coach. He was named interim head coach on Dec. 12, 2011 following the firing of head coach Tony Sparano. His first game as interim head coach was a 30-23 road win over the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 18. The Dolphins finished the season 2-1 under Bowles.

Before joining the Dolphins, Bowles was a secondary coach for the Dallas Cowboys (2005-07), secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns (2001-04) and secondary coach of the New York Jets (2000).

Before 2000, Bowles worked in college football, first as defensive coordinator/secondary coach at Morehouse College (1997) and then as defensive coordinator/secondary coach at Grambling State (1998-99).

Bowles played eight seasons in the NFL as a safety, most of which with the Washington Redskins. Bowles played seven seasons for the Redskins (1986-90, 1992-93) and one season for the San Francisco 49ers (1991). Bowles started in the Redskins' Super Bowl XXII triumph over the Denver Broncos. Bowles was undrafted coming out of Temple University.

Background: Bowles attended Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, N.J. He played college football at Temple under then-Owls coach Bruce Arians. In 2013, Arians brought him to Arizona to be his defensive coordinator.
