Draft 2013

Pick Analysis: Stewart was one of the top linebacker recruits in the country coming out of Byrd High School in Shreveport, La., choosing Texas A&M over Alabama, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Cal and Michigan. As a true freshman Stewart made a big impact, seeing action in all 13 games while starting seven at outside linebacker. During that 2009 season, he managed 28 total tackles, including one tackle for loss, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.

The following spring, Stewart moved inside inside when Texas A&M went to the 3-4 defense, but failed to crack the starting lineup, instead proving to be a valuable backup and special teamer. Fast forward to 2011 and Stewart started every game in the middle of the defense next to senior Garrick Williams. He led the team with 98 total tackles, but only 5.5 of those went for a loss, three of which were sacks. In 2012, Texas A&M moved back to a 4-3 base defense, and Stewart recorded 81 tackles (2.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups, and seven quarterback hurries.
