Draft 2019

Pick Analysis: The cousin of NFL players defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and cornerback Johnathan Joseph is making his own name among NFL scouts. He could have left for the pros after his junior season but wanted to be the first in his immediate family to graduate from college. Johnson travelled a bit early in his collegiate career, playing at Butler Community College in 2014 (21-559, five TD) as a freshman and Iowa Western Community College in 2015 (19-434, two TDs). He redshirted his first year at UB, then exploded on the scene as a first-team All-MAC selection that ranked second in the FBS with 113 receiving yards per game (1,356 total on 76 catches, 17.8 average in 12 starts). The yardage mark set a school record, as did his 14 receiving scores. He had a rough weekend in September 2018, finding out one of his friends was killed and playing the next game with the flu; Johnson fought it through to catch six passes for 76 yards and the game-winning touchdown against Temple. He completed the season as a first-team All-MAC selection with a team-high 57 receptions for 1,011 yards (18.2 average) and 11 touchdowns.
