Gil Brandt's top five college football senior wide receivers
The profound emphasis on the passing game in college football means that there is a plethora of talent ready for the NFL.
There are a lot of wide receivers being developed in college football due to the emphasis on passing at the level. Years ago, who would have thought that Oklahoma -- once a wishbone staple in the college game -- would have three 100-yard receivers in a single game? This means the 2014 NFL Draft could be stocked with a number of good wide receivers.

Davis (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash. He considered leaving school after last season, during which he averaged 16.5 yards per catch and had seven touchdowns. Herron (5-foot-9, 187 pounds) runs a 4.39-second 40-yard dash. He has outstanding speed and quickness, and also possesses very good hands. He averaged 21.2 yards per reception in 2012, and added eight touchdowns. A lot of scouts will be going to Laramie, Wyo. to watch this kid from California. Hoffman (6-foot-3, 216 pounds) runs a 4.58-second 40-yard dash. He does not have great speed, but runs precise routes. Hoffman will catch everything thrown to him. A better passer at quarterback this season (sophomore Taysom Hill is set to take over at the position) should help with Hoffman's production, which was outstanding last season (100 catches for 1,248 yards and 11 touchdowns). Matthews (6-foot-2 7/8, 201 pounds) runs the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds. He is an outstanding receiver, but lacks great speed. Matthews will, however, catch everything he gets his hands on and is good after the catch.
Honorable mention: Jeffrey Janis, Saginaw Valley State -- Janis (6-foot-2 7/8, 216 pounds) runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. Janis, who had 106 receptions for 1,635 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2012, has outstanding size and speed for the position. (Mandatory Credit: Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports)
