Drew Brees has passed for 3,369 yards, 26 TDs and 8 INTs this season. He is on pace for 5,390 yards, which would make him the only player with four 5,000 yard-yard seasons in NFL history. Heading into this season, Brees could boast that he was the first player with three consecutive 4,500-yard seasons in NFL history, the first player with back-to-back 5,000-yard seasons, and the only player with three 5,000-yard seasons.
Geno Smith has 1 TD and 8 INTs in his last five games. He leads the NFL with 20 giveaways (16 INTs, four fumbles lost) and is responsible for 20 of the Jets' 21 giveaways this season.
The Patriots offense has made significant improvement in the last four games since Rob Gronkowski returned from back and forearm injuries.
Among first-year undrafted players through their first four starts (since 1970), Case Keenum's 99.0 passer rating ranks No. 1, ahead of second-place Warren Moon, whose passer rating was 80.5 in his first four starts of 1984 with the Houston Oilers.
Peyton Manning (470 TDs) and Tom Brady (348 TDs) have combined to throw 818 TD passes. Sunday’s game will feature passers with the most combined TD passes in NFL history, topping an October 2010 game between the Vikings’ Brett Favre (504 TD passes at the time) and Brady (236 TD passes at the time), when their combined total was 740. When Manning and Brady met in Week 5 last season, they had combined for 714 TD passes.
San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco’s four losses have come to teams with a combined 32-9 record: Seahawks (10-1); Colts (7-3); Panthers (7-3); and Saints (8-2). Their six wins have come over teams with a combined 22-38 record.
Adrian Peterson vs. Green Bay
Adrian Peterson has a 4-9 career record vs GB. However, he has 3 games of 190+ yards vs the Packers. Four of Peterson’s top 9 single game rushing totals have come vs Green Bay. Projecting Peterson’s 13-game total against the Packers over a 16-game season, he would rush for 1,849 yards against GB.
Andrew Luck has yet to lose back-to-back games through 26 games as a pro. He is 8-0 after a loss. Only two other quarterbacks whose careers started since the AFL-NFL merger managed to avoid consecutive losses through their first 26 starts at QB: Dan Marino (first 33) and Kordell Stewart (first 28).
Cam Newton is on pace to set career bests in completion percentage (63.2), touchdown passes (26), and passer rating (91.8). Cam Newton’s passer rating on third down of 111.9 is the NFL’s highest.
After opening the season 0-6, the Giants have won four straight games. They are allowing 23.0 fewer PPG during the winning streak. It helps that the QBs they have faced during the streak have a combined 5-14 record this season: Josh Freeman (0-4 as starter); Michael Vick (2-4 as starter)/Matt Barkley; Terrelle Pryor (3-5); and Scott Tolzien (0-1).
