Top 8 quarterbacks in the 2013 NFL Draft
The NFL and fans have been spoiled by the success of young players at the quarterback position over the past few years. The 2013 NFL Draft might level things off a bit, as the class lacks any true stars. Here is one man's opinion on the top eight signal-callers available:
When putting together a highlight tape of throws, Bray could be among the best in the group. However, tremendously sloppy footwork and decision making will continue to hold him back until fixed. Round projection: 3-5
There are qualities to really like in Manuel, but he is going to need time to develop. I don't believe he was given the best coaching in college, but Manuel hurt himself by making poor throws under pressure. His footwork isn't that far away. Round projection: 2-3
I understand if Nassib is the flavor of choice for others. He shows mobility to buy time and works well in the short to intermediate game. However, his movements are a bit too frenetic for my liking, as is his downfield accuracy. Round projection: 2-3
Barkley isn't going to wow evaluators in any area on the field. However, if he can get into a rhythm, with a solid base and timing, Barkley's placement is very good, even on downfield targets. It is difficult to isolate him from the offense he ran at USC. Round projection: 1-2
The N.C. State product will struggle buying himself time with mobility in and out of the pocket. However, Glennon could thrive in a quick-drop, fast-read offense that takes advantage of his velocity and accuracy and minimizes poor decisions. Round projection: 1-2
Another potentially unpopular pick, but with this group lacking standouts, it is all about the traits you trust. Before the shotgun-heavy, four- or five-wide formations Dysert ran this year, he showed great pocket movement and ability to throw on the run. Round projection: 2-4
Just take a look at how Smith opened the 2012 season, hitting on all cylinders after making multiple reads and having a desirable pocket presence. But instead of improving, Smith seemingly regressed week to week, cutting off sections of the field and missing reads. Round projection: 1
It's not at all popular, but I rank Wilson first among this group, just ahead of Geno Smith. Wilson's willingness to stand in the pocket and test vertically continues to stand out. Wilson's footwork needs help in order to limit his throws from fluttering. Round projection: 1-2
