Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger flew to Georgia this weekend to cooperate with an investigation into a 20-year-old woman's sexual assault allegation against him, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday, but he didn't answer any questions.
According to the source, Roethlisberger and other associates who were with him March 5, when the alleged incident took place at a nightclub in Milledgeville, traveled from Pittsburgh on a private plane to spend Saturday answering questions from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. However, according to reports, a GBI investigator said Roethlisberger didn't answer questions from law enforcement at the behest of his lawyer.
Roethlisberger's lawyer, Ed Garland, confirmed to The Associated Press that Roethlisberger has yet to speak with investigators regarding the accusation. Garland also said there's no timetable for an interview.
Garland has said his client will cooperate with investigators. Roethlisberger and Garland have refuted the allegation against the quarterback, and the investigation is ongoing.
Roethlisberger's agent, Ryan Tollner, declined to comment Tuesday. Roethlisberger missed the start of the Steelers' offseason workout program Monday.
There has been no meeting scheduled between Roethlisberger and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, according to sources, though the quarterback did fly back to Pittsburgh after leaving Georgia to meet with Steelers ownership and officials about the matter.
