VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Former NFL star Bruce Smith's drunken driving trial in Virginia has been postponed.

College: Virginia Tech

Experience: 19 Seasons

Teams:Buffalo Bills (1985-1999), Washington Redskins (2000-2003)

The case had been set for Thursday, Smith's 46th birthday. Virginia Beach General District Court records show the case is now set for July 9.

The former Virginia Tech standout was charged with DUI last month after a Virginia Beach police officer stopped him for speeding on Interstate 264. He's also charged with refusing to take an alcohol breath test.

Smith was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this year. He finished his 19-year career with the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins as the NFL's all-time sacks leader. He played in 11 Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro selection nine times.
