The Detroit Lions announced Thursday that they have signed wide receiver Keary Colbert, who played in four games with the team last season.
Terms of the deal with Colbert, who was an unrestricted free agent, weren't disclosed.
Colbert spent time with three teams last season. He signed a three-year contract with the Denver Broncos in March, then was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in September for a conditional fifth-round draft pick. After playing seven games with the Seahawks, Colbert was released and later landed with the Lions.
Colbert caught five passes for 64 yards during his time in Detroit and finished the season with 12 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown.
Colbert, a second-round draft pick out of USC in 2004, started his NFL career with the Carolina Panthers, with whom he spent four seasons. He played in 55 games, with 42 starts, as a Panther and caught 109 passes for 1,424 yards and seven touchdowns. He enjoyed his best season as a rookie with career highs in receptions (47), yards (754) and touchdowns (five).
Colbert faces heavy competition for a spot on Detroit's roster. The Lions have 11 wide receivers on their roster, including veterans Calvin Johnson, Bryant Johnson, Ronald Curry and Adam Jennings.
