6 p.m. ET Sunday (TV: NBC) Super Bowl: Pittsburgh vs. Arizona
Matchup Storyline Did you know?
Series: Steelers lead 32-23-3.
Streaks: Since the Cardinals moved to Arizona in 1988, they are 3-2 against Pittsburgh, including a 21-14 victory in Week 4 of the 2007 season.
The Steelers go after their sixth Super Bowl title, which would be an NFL record, but the Cardinals are in the big game for the first time. Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt knows Pittsburgh quite well, since he was the team's offensive coordinator from 2004 to 2006, including in a Super Bowl XL victory. But Whisenhunt's Cardinals have a different style, throwing the ball much more than the Steelers, who historically depend on smash-mouth running and defense. Whichever approach works best will decide the championship. The Steelers are the ninth team since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger to finish first in total defense and reach the Super Bowl. Of the previous eight teams to do so, seven won the Super Bowl (only the 1982 Dolphins lost). ... Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin will be 36 years and 323 days old on Sunday, becoming the youngest head coach in Super Bowl history. ... The Steelers have 20 players who have played in a Super Bowl. The Cardinals have five. ... The Cardinals are the eighth different NFC team to reach the Super Bowl in the last eight seasons (2001 Rams, 2002 Buccaneers, 2003 Panthers, 2004 Eagles, 2005 Seahawks, 2006 Bears, 2007 Giants).
