The Dallas Cowboys and Amari Cooper haven't made much public headway in their contract negotiations, and the star receiver couldn't shed any light on whether progress has been made lately.
"I haven't talked to my agents] in a minute," Cooper said, [via the team's official website. "I really don't like talking about the contract. I feel like it's one of those things that will naturally happen."
Cooper, coming off a dynamic end of the 2018 campaign after the trade to Dallas, is more concerned about learning Kellen Moore's offense than when he'll put his John Hancock on a new contract.
"Yeah, I just handle my business," Cooper said. "I'm more anxious about camp."
Cooper has little reason to worry. The 24-year-old is set to make $13.924 million on the fifth year of his rookie contract. The Cowboys -- who gave up a first-round pick to acquire his services -- could then employ the franchise tag in 2020 if a long-term deal isn't struck, which would amount to a one-year pay raise for Cooper.
For Cooper, who snagged 53 passes for 725 yards and six touchdowns in nine games with the Cowboys, the focus is on building his rapport with Dak Prescott. Through minicamp, Moore has reportedly moved the dynamic receiver around more than he was used last year, with Cooper seeing increased time in the slot and going in motion more this offseason.
"I love it. I even loved the offense last year," Cooper said. "With Kellen, I still love it. I think it gives me an opportunity to display my skill-set with the type of plays we run. He's obviously a good coach. He's a young guy and we can relate to him a lot and come up to him and talk about certain things."
All indications are Cooper is in for a big season in Dallas. If those predictions prove true, he'd get paid handsomely -- if the Cowboys don't lock him down long-term beforehand.
