Last year as a member of the New York Giants, Landon Collins wasn't allowed to hit running back Saquon Barkley. Now that the safety joined division rival Washington Redskins, he's free to smash away.
"I've been ready to tackle Saquon," Collins said over the weekend at his charity softball event, via Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com. "That's my guy, though. All love to him and he's been doing his thing as we all know. But when I get to meet him in the hole this time, it's going to be full-go."
Last season with Big Blue, Collins joked that given Barkley's combination of size and speed, he was glad he didn't have to tackle the NFL's reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Now it's his job to stuff Barkley in the hole for two games a year. It's a task easier said than accomplished.
After moving on from the team that drafted him, Collins added that he feels he's in a better system for his skill set than the one the Giants ran last year under defensive coordinator James Bettcher.
"I don't feel like I bleed blue anymore," Collins said, via NJ.com. "I feel like [the Redskins] know my value and how they'll use me in their defense. I don't feel like I was used correctly within the defense that I was playing in."
One reason the Giants let Collins walk this offseason was the questionable scheme fit. Now the 25-year-old has the chance to prove that decision wrong, first by stuffing Barkley in the hole repeatedly.
