Cardinals claim LT Desmond Harrison via waivers

Desmond Harrison is going from the shores of Lake Erie to the desert.

A day after being waived by the Cleveland Browns, the left tackle was scooped up by the Arizona Cardinals, the team announced. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport notes that Harrison was spotted at the airport heading to Arizona prior to the move becoming official. In a corresponding move, the Cards cut tackle Andrew Lauderdale.

The Browns waived Harrison after he missed the start of mandatory minicamp this week.

The 25-year-old former undrafted free agent started the first eight games at left tackle for Cleveland last season before being replaced by Greg Robinson.

Harrison is a raw, talented young lineman with upside, but struggled at times last season when tossed into the fire out of the gate. A change of scenery could be welcome news for Harrison.

The Cardinals spent the offseason upgrading one of the most porous offensive lines in the NFL by trading for tackle Marcus Gilbert and signing guard J.R. Sweezy. Taking a flyer on Harrison could prove major dividends in the long run if the left tackle ever reaches his potential.
