The Mountain West Conference might be home to college football's top quarterback, as Wyoming's Josh Allen has risen from obscurity to become one of the hottest names at his position.

A JUCO transfer who didn't have a single Div. I scholarship offer coming out of high school, Allen has received as much buzz as any signal-caller other than USC's Sam Darnold this offseason. In CFB 24/7's 17 for '17 series this summer, Allen ranked No. 1 among players who opted to return for the 2017 season instead of entering the 2017 NFL Draft. He nearly did enter the 2017 draft before choosing to stay in school. analyst Daniel Jeremiah has likened Allen to a more athletic version of Joe Flacco.

Pulling back the curtain on the vote

Allen received votes from all seven CFB 24/7 experts, including four top-10 votes (two analysts had him in their top three). He's one of nine players who received a vote from every analyst, and he's the second-highest rated QB in the #CFBTop25 countdown. He's also the highest-rated player who doesn't play in a Power Five league.

CFB 24/7 is marking the days to the start of the 2017 season by counting down the top 25 players in college football.

"Allen has the ability to be inside the top two of this list if he can improve his accuracy and decision making. His arm talent and ability to make plays outside of the pocket give him an exciting ceiling." -- Lance Zierlein

"Wyoming's quarterback has drawn more attention in the offseason than he did during the season. This fall, he'll get every chance to back it up." -- Chase Goodbread

Where do fans rank Allen?

We asked Twitter users who they considered the best player in college football. Allen received enough support to finish 20th in the fan vote. The fans might not be as high on him as our analysts at this point, but that's a very solid showing for Allen in the fan vote, given that, until this offseason, he had received very little national exposure. His popularity will likely only continue to grow.
