Tarvarus McFadden is the latest in a long line of talented cornerbacks produced by Florida State, and the junior has rare upside.

He established himself as one of college football's best defensive playmakers last season, recording eight interceptions (tied for the most in the country) in eight different games. He made them against top competition, too, picking off 2017 NFL Draft selections Deshaun Watson, Brad Kaaya and Chad Kelly as well as Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson.

At 6-foot-2, 198 pounds (school measurements), he has the length and ball skills scouts covet in cornerbacks. analyst Daniel Jeremiah has studied McFadden's tape from last season and believes his ceiling as a player is similar to that of former FSU star and Pro Bowl Vikings CB Xavier Rhodes.

Pulling back the curtain on the vote

McFadden received votes from all seven CFB 24/7 experts, including one top-10 vote. He's one of nine players who made the ballot of every expert, and McFadden is the third-highest rated defensive back in the #CFBTop25 countdown. One of the DBs ahead of him in the countdown also comes from Florida State and was a unanimous selection to the #CFBTop25 (safety Derwin James).

CFB 24/7 is marking the days to the start of the 2017 season by counting down the top 25 players in college football.

What some of our analysts are saying about McFadden

"McFadden has an excellent blend of size, athleticism and ball skills. He gave up too many plays last year, but he has all of the tools to be an elite cornerback. -- Daniel Jeremiah

"Beware throwing the ball in his direction (tied for the NCAA lead with 8 picks in 2016). Possesses really good size, length and the ability to change direction. A real ballhawk." -- Charles Davis

* * *

"Unlike Jalen Ramsey before him, McFadden doesn't have explosive deep speed. However, he does have ridiculous balls skills that should have quarterbacks looking in the other direction this season." -- Lance Zierlein

* * *

"McFadden catches the ball if it's anywhere near his hands; his eight interceptions tied for the NCAA lead last season." -- Chad Reuter

* * *

"A true ballhawk who will make opposing quarterbacks think twice about throwing his way, McFadden is the next in a long line of NFL-caliber cornerbacks at FSU." -- Chase Goodbread

Where do fans rank McFadden?

We asked Twitter users who they considered the best player in college football. McFadden received enough support to finish 18th in the fan voting. Clearly, he made quite an impression last season, as he finished ahead of some of CFB's top QBs in the fan vote. He'll have an opportunity on a huge stage to add more fans to his corner when FSU opens the season against Alabama on Sept. 2.
