The vast majority of the time we hear about stories involving sports fans on social media, they are odd and downright ugly.
However, despite the thousands of troll attempts, attention-seeking rants and thirsty DMs sent each day, there are some instances in which social media is used for good. One notable recent example connected Odell Beckham Jr. with Jayro Ponce, a nine-year-old boy from Texas who's battling cancer.
On July 17, Tommy Joe, a radio DJ in Amarillo, Tex., made a public plea to the Giants wideout.
The post caught the attention of Danny Richburg, the father of Giants center Weston Richburg, who then passed the message along to Beckham on Twitter.
@OBJ_3 time is of the essence. Weston has our number. We will find the $ to pay the jet fuel. pic.twitter.com/1nveKgfGuQ

OBJ replied quickly and began working with the Make-A-Wish foundation to take the trip.

By Saturday night, Beckham and Jayro were hanging out.
See, social media isn't all about doing the latest dance crazes and taking shirtless pics on a yacht. Props to everyone involved -- especially OBJ -- for making Ponce's dream come true.
