LSU's Orgeron: Arden Key can be better than Myles Garrett

HOOVER, Ala. -- Ed Orgeron isn't doing anything to slow down the hype surrounding LSU pass rusher Arden Key, saying Monday at SEC Media Days that the junior can be as good, if not better, than the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 draft, Myles Garrett.

College Football 24/7 Hot Topics:

Former Atlanta Falcons DE Chuck Smith, now a private coach for pass rushers, thinks Key is already ahead of the former Texas A&M star and Cleveland Browns rookie. Asked about Smith's remarks, Orgeron didn't shy away from the comparison.

"He can be (as good), no question. He's a different player than Myles. I recruited Myles, I have a lot of respect for Myles, and Garrett obviously was the No. 1 player picked in the draft," Orgeron said. "Can Arden reach that status and perhaps surpass it? Yes, he can."

He'll have to do it coming off of shoulder surgery which will keep him out for the beginning of fall practice.

Of course, Orgeron probably wouldn't be doing his job very well if he didn't promote his players when given such an opportunity. It's hype season, no doubt, but there's also no question that Key has the talent to be special.
