Arden Key's leave of absence from the LSU football team is over, but it still has no explanation.
The school announced Sunday that Key, one of the top pass rushers in college football, will be back with the team on Monday, and that he recently underwent shoulder surgery. But in a statement issued by coach Ed Orgeron, Key's absence from the team since February, during which he missed spring drills, was not addressed.
"Arden had shoulder surgery and everything went as planned," Orgeron said. "We are looking forward to having Arden rejoin the team [Monday]."
Key's return to the team coincides with the beginning of summer classes at LSU, according to The Advocate. At the time Key left the team, it was described only as being for "personal reasons," and the school asked media to respect the privacy of Key and his family. During his absence, he remained enrolled in classes.
Last year as a sophomore, Key broke LSU's single-season record for sacks with 12, in only 11 games. He was suspended for the Tigers' game against Texas A&M. Although Key is listed at 6-foot-6, 238 pounds, Orgeron recently said he has bulked up to 255. As a junior, he'll be eligible for either the 2018 or 2019 NFL drafts.
