Torrey Smith pays adoption fees for 46 cats and dogs

Torrey Smith has scored 41 touchdowns in his NFL career. He did five better at a pet adoption event this weekend in Baltimore.

In a surprise move that left event organizers all sorts of fired up, Smith and his wife, Chanel, paid for the adoption fees for 46 cats and dogs. The Smiths also made an additional donation according to BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter), per The Washington Post.

Smith played collegiately at the University of Maryland before spending the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Ravens. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason.

"This year, Torrey surprised us all with a special announcement," the shelter wrote on Facebook. "He explained that before the show, he and his wife Chanel were discussing what more they could do for all the homeless animals they spent time with backstage. They wanted to make sure that every single one of them had an adoption application by the end of the night. Torrey and Chanel decided that they would cover the adoption fees for every single cat and dog at Pawject Runway -- 46 animals, wow!"

It's unlikely that the Smith family will take in all 46 of the animals, though that would probably make for a pretty decent reality show on Bravo. I'd like a executive producer credit if the powers that be move forward with the idea.
