Report: Tavon Austin has surgery, will miss Rams OTAs

Los Angeles Rams wideout Tavon Austin reportedly will be sidelined for organized team activities.

Austin underwent surgery on his left wrist but is expected to be back in time for training camp at the end of July, ESPN reported Friday.

The former first-round selection managed just 58 receptions on 107 targets in 2016, and finished with a career-high 509 receiving yards. The 5-foot-9, 176-pound target also tallied four touchdowns, including one on the ground.

Since he was taken eighth overall in 2013, though, Austin has been used more as a gadget player compared to a true No. 1 option. That didn't stop the Rams from giving the speedster a four-year, $42 million contract extension last August.

Los Angeles boosted its receiving corps this offseason by signing Robert Woods and drafting Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds. But even with all of the new weapons, we'll be excited to see what new coach Sean McVay has in store in his attempt to unleash Austin's tantalizing skill set.
