Pro day results: South Alabama, SMU, Southern Miss

Representatives from 30 NFL teams, including three tight ends coaches, traveled to South Alabama on Tuesday to watch the workouts of 30 players. The pro day took place outdoors on FieldTurf.

» TE Gerald Everett (6-3 3/8, 241) had a 10-foot broad jump, a 4.45-second short shuttle, and stood on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. He went through a very good positional workout.

There were no other players present who would be considered pro prospects.

Other notable pro day results from Tuesday

SMU

Representatives from 25 NFL teams watched seven players work out outdoors on FieldTurf.

» QB Matt Davis was a late addition to the draft after the NCAA denied him a sixth-year of eligibility. He went through a workout for quarterbacks, and scouts there also wanted him to participate in running back drills. His agent denied the request, saying Davis was a quarterback only. I'm not sure that's a great move by the young man.

Also working out was WR Courtland Sutton, who decided to stay in school. The former high school safety could be the first wideout picked in next year's draft.

SOUTHERN MISS

Twenty players worked out outdoors on FieldTurf. The most interesting prospect was QB Nick Mullens (6-0 7/8, 214). He ran the 40 in 4.88 and 4.91 seconds, had a 31-inch vertical, and 8-8 broad jump, a 4.77-second short shuttle, and 7.40-second three-cone drill. He went through a 60-play, scripted workout. He had a visit with the 49ers and will be with the Saints soon.
