Will Mitchell Trubisky go with a simple handshake with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, a big hug, or perhaps a high-five? The former North Carolina quarterback has roughly five weeks to figure it out.
Trubisky will be among the NFL's guests at the draft in Philadelphia next month as one of the event's top prospects, he told NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock Tuesday following UNC's pro day workout.
The league won't formally announce which players will attend the draft until April, but roughly two dozen of the draft's elite prospects typically are on hand to walk across the draft stage, greeted by Goodell, upon their selection. Most if not all are chosen in the first round. Prospects who attend the draft also participate in the NFL's Play 60 initiative, which encourages 60 minutes of daily physical activity for children, on the day before the draft begins.
How quickly Trubisky will be selected depends heavily on where he falls among the draft's other top passers: Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer, Clemson's Deshaun Watson and Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes. He currently ranks No. 3 on Mayock's positional rankings, behind Kizer and Watson but ahead of Mahomes and Cal's Davis Webb.
Watson has confirmed his intention to attend the draft, as well. Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett, potentially the No. 1 overall pick, has said he does not plan to attend.
