Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebackers coach Joey Porter was arrested on the south side of Pittsburgh on Sunday night. The team announced Monday he would be placed on leave pending further review.

A Pittsburgh police officer was summoned to a bar at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET due to "an unruly customer who was in the process of assaulting the doorman", who was later identified as Porter, according to a statement from the City of Pittsburgh Public Safety Department.

Porter was then arrested and charged on suspicion of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and public drunkenness. Porter was booked into the Allegheny County Jail overnight.

In regard to placing Porter on leave, the Steelers initiated the move after speaking with him, a source informed of the situation told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The personal conduct policy applies to all personnel and the Steelers haved been in contact with the NFL as part of its reporting obligation, Rapoport added.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert released the following statement on Monday afternoon:

"We are continuing to gather information concerning Sunday night's incident involving Joey Porter. We have been and will continue to be in communication with the NFL as is required by the Personal Conduct Policy. Pending further review, Joey Porter has been placed on leave. At this time, we will move forward with our preparations for the Divisional Round playoff game at Kansas City."

Porter was on the sidelines for the Steelers' 30-12 wild-card win over the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.
