Michigan TE Jake Butt suffers knee injury in Orange Bowl

Michigan tight end Jake Butt, one of the top players at his position in college football, was knocked out of the Wolverines' Orange Bowl game against Florida State Friday with a knee injury.

After the game, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Butt either suffered an MCL or an ACL injury, according to The Blade.

Butt was hurt on his final reception of the night in the second quarter when he was tackled along the sideline in the second quarter. He left the field under his own power. The school confirmed after halftime that he would not return. The senior caught three passes for 28 yards for the game, finishing his senior season with 46 catches for 546 yards and four touchdowns.

Butt (6-feet-6, 250 pounds) is considered one of the top prospects at the tight end position for the 2017 NFL Draft. One NFL personnel executive has compared him to Dallas Cowboys veteran TE Jason Witten, and he won the John Mackey Award earlier this month as the nation's top tight end.

Michigan was also without star LB Jabrill Peppers against the Seminoles, who did not play at all due to a practice injury.
