Derek Barnett breaks Reggie White's record for sacks

Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett broke the school record for sacks, held by late Hall of Famer Reggie White, in the Music City Bowl against Nebraska on Friday.

Barnett (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) pressured the Nebraska pocket throughout the night during the Volunteers' 38-24 win, but didn't make the record-breaking sack, the 33rd of his career, until just 3:29 remained in the game. Tennessee called timeout after the play as Barnett was congratulated by coaches and teammates.

Barnett, a junior, has yet to announce whether he will apply for early eligibility to enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

He's been remarkably consistent over a three-year college career, notching 10, 10 and 13 sacks in his three years at UT for a total of 33. Barnett recorded 21.5 tackles for loss this year, and his play has caught the eye of NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein.

White was credited with 32 sacks at Tennessee from 1980-1983.
