Louisville is taking disciplinary action two days after it revealed that a coach on its football staff accepted and shared leaked Wake Forest plays before the two teams met earlier this season.
UL athletic director Tom Jurich announced on Friday that co-offensive coordinator Lonnie Galloway has been suspended from the team's participation in its bowl game (Citrus Bowl vs. LSU, Dec. 31), effective immediately.
"It is clear to me that the information should not have been shared by anyone at Wake Forest and it should not have been received by anyone at the University of Louisville," Jurich stated in a release. "Although no one from Louisville sought the information, once it was provided, we did not do what should have been done. The information should not have been accepted."
UL announced this week that Galloway accepted and shared the information he obtained from Wake Forest radio announcer Tommy Elrod, who was fired earlier this week after Wake Forest revealed the findings of its investigation into the breach. A Wake Forest staff member found documents pertaining to its game plan vs. Louisville at UL's Papa John's Stadium a day before the two teams met on Nov. 12.
Jurich stated on Friday that UL head coach Bobby Petrino, who has maintained that he knew nothing of the situation, "has been firm that on the two occasions in which he previously commented on the matter, he did not know about the information provided at that time."
