Despite staring at another losing record this season, Jeff Fisher isn't going anywhere.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday on GameDay Morning the Los Angeles Rams signed the head coach to a two-year extension through 2018.
In addition, the Rams also have signed general manager Les Snead to a contract extension beyond 2017, a source informed of the situation told Rapoport.
Fisher entered the season in the final year of his deal.
While the Rams did not announce a deal was in place, questions about Fisher's extension have swirled since the summer.
Speaking with NFL Network's Steve Wyche recently, Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff was mum on an extension, but defended his coach's performance this season.
"Everybody will want to judge Jeff through the prism of just the record, but that's totally unfair when you look at the set of circumstances he was handed this year," Demoff said. "It was different than any team in the NFL.
"We moved halfway across the country, then had OTAs in Oxnard. Training camp was in Irvine, now we're in Thousand Oaks. We moved coaches and players and families. To provide leadership and consistency, he's done a model job."
In his first four seasons with the Rams, Fisher has guided the team to records of 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10, and 7-9. The Rams currently sit at 4-7 with a difficult schedule down the stretch. Fisher hasn't led a team to a winning season since 2008 and has just six seasons in his 22-year coaching career with more than eight victories.
Fisher was under heat locally this week, as Rams legend Eric Dickerson called for the coach to be fired.
Despite the uproar in Los Angeles regarding Fisher, the contract extension ensures that the coach will be around at least next season.
