Eagles facing uncertainty at running back after injuries

The Philadelphia Eagles lost two running backs in an injury-filled defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.

On Monday, head coach Doug Pederson said that Ryan Mathews is day-to-day with a knee injury and Darren Sproles will be held from practice with a rib injury, but should be able to play on Monday night versus the Green Bay Packers.

Mathews was seen in a knee brace as he exited the stadium Sunday night.

With the top two backs out, Wendell Smallwood took the bulk of the snaps Sunday, carrying the ball 13 times for 48 yards and adding four catches for 31 yards.

The optimism surrounding Sproles suggests he should retain a sizable workload if he can play, but we expect Pederson to grow Smallwood's role assuming Mathews sits and a 33-year-old Sproles is fighting through pain management.
