Jamaal Charles undergoes second knee scope

The Chiefs still hope to have Jamaal Charles back in time for the playoffs, but the veteran runner has hit another roadblock.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Charles underwent a knee scope on Monday, per team trainer Rick Burkholder.

This latest procedure -- on his left knee -- comes after Charles had his right knee scoped earlier in the month.

Packed away on injured reserve, Charles was seen as a candidate to return in time for the regular-season finale or the postseason. The chances of that are clouded with this latest setback.

Coming of last year's ACL tear, Charles suited up briefly this season to run for 40 yards and a touchdown off 12 carries over three games before undergoing the initial scope. In his absence, the Chiefs have been solid on the ground using Spencer Ware as a lead back with Charcandrick West behind him. The team also has Knile Davis and Bishop Sankey on the roster.

A healthy Charles would be a welcome addition, but relying on the 29-year-old runner to save the day is unreasonable. Anything they get in 2016 is gravy.
