Injuries: Sammy Watkins not ready to practice

The Bills will have to wait a bit longer on the return of Sammy Watkins.

Watkins was placed on injured reserve prior to their Week 4 win over the Patriots with a foot injury. Though the talented wideout is eligible to return to practice, Bills coach Rex Ryan said Monday he's not quite there. Trainers haven't cleared him yet.

"Sammy feels fantastic but we're gonna be smart with this and we'll do what's best for him, obviously," Ryan said during his news conference.

"Until all our medical people are on board with him coming back out there on the field, then we're not gonna practice him. But when that time occurs and hopefully that will occur soon, then he'll be back out there."

The earliest Watkins could play in a game is on Nov. 27 against the Jaguars.

In other Bills injury news, the team placed center Eric Wood on injured reserve. Wood broke his leg in Week 9.

Here are some other injuries we are tracking on Monday:

  1. Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long is out for the season with an ankle injury, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the situation. Running back Jordan Howard suffered a possible ankle or Achilles injury Sunday against the Buccaneers, the team announced. The fifth-round rookie has emerged as one of the lone bright spots for Chicago this season.
  1. Rob Gronkowski is believed to have suffered a punctured lung during the Patriots' loss to the Seahawks on Sunday night, sources with knowledge of the situation told Rapoport. He's expected to miss Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Running back Dion Lewis was healthy enough to play against the Seahawks, but New England opted to be cautious with the back, who hasn't played in a year. Coach Bill Belichick added in a conference call with reporters on Monday that Lewis would not have been listed on the team's injury report.

  1. Vikings offensive tackle Jake Long suffered an Achilles injury that is believed to be season ending, coach Mike Zimmer said.
  1. Dolphins offensive tackle Branden Albert dislocated his wrist and had it popped back into place before the training staff wrapped a soft cast around it, allowing him to finish the game. With all of this considered, he could be able to play as usual this week, per Rapoport.
  1. Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald is sore but hopefully will practice this week and should be ready for Sunday, coach Bruce Arians said.
  1. The Broncos could be getting major reinforcements. Coach Gary Kubiak is hopeful that cornerback Aqib Talib (back) and defensive lineman Derek Wolfe (elbow) will be ready when they get back from their bye for a prime-time game against the Chiefs on Nov. 27
  1. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters Monday that Thomas Rawls (fibula) is ready to go, saying "he's going to practice to play this week."

Pass-rusher Michael Bennett (knee) is still a few weeks away, according to Carroll.

  1. Falcons running back Tevin Coleman will be a full participant in practice before facing the Cardinals, coach Dan Quinn said. Cornerback Desmond Trufant (shoulder) is expected to be back at some point this season, Quinn added. Tight end Jacob Tamme is getting a second opinion on his shoulder.
  1. Giants receiver Victor Cruz (ankle) did play against the Bengals on Monday night and offensive lineman Brett Jones suffered a strained calf and didn't return. Wideout Dwayne Harris left early with a toe injury and didn't re-enter the game.
  1. Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes is in the concussion protocol. He left Sunday's loss to the Redskins after colliding with a teammate in the fourth quarter.
  1. Cowboys tight end Geoff Swaim is believed to have suffered a serious pectoral injury, Rapoport reported, per a source. He is undergoing tests.
  1. Chargers defensive lineman Brandon Mebane tore his biceps and is out for the season, coach Mike McCoy confirmed.
  1. Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III is on pace to return to the team this season, executive Sashi Brown said, per The Plain Dealer.
  1. The Panthers placed punter Andy Lee (hamstring) on injured reserve and signed Michael Palardy.
  1. Bengals defensive end Wallace Gilberry suffered a calf injury in Monday's loss to the Bengals and didn't return.
