Seahawks sign ex-Giants DE Damontre Moore

The Seahawks are adding a former New York Giants third-round draft pick for depth with Pro Bowl defensive lineman Michael Bennettsidelined for a few weeks.

Seattle has signed defensive end Damontre Moore, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the move.

Viewed by some as a first-round talent coming out of Texas A&M in 2013, Moore was a preseason sensation as a rookie but ultimately failed to replace Mathias Kiwanuka in the hybrid stand-up outside linebacker and down defensive end role.

He never started a game across three seasons and 42 games in New York. The Giants waived him late last season, leaving Moore to drift around in Miami and Oakland. He has been a street free agent since the Raiders cut him early in training camp.

Expect Frank Clark, Cassius Marsh and Jarran Reed to pick up extra snaps in Bennett's absence, leaving Moore as an insurance policy.
